That’s such an interesting parallel! I’d argue that there’s a lot more outside (non-Muslimah) interest in Muslim women and “veiling” (hijab/niqab/burqa)than with Black women’s hair. As I said, the politicization of “natural” (i.e., chemically unaltered) hair is irritating. I’ll get to all that later.

Oh, and you should totally write about your ArabFro. *TEE!* ArabFro. That’s so cute. You should give us some pics. I’ve gotten mixed responses about my own hair when I wear it out. Even the “positive” responses – for reasons I’ll get to later – are kinda euw, and when it’s flat-ironed it is universally well-received…SIGH. People suck. If my head wasn’t dented like an old soda can I would totally rock a low cut or go bald.
