Happy Birthday, Possum Stew! (Er…sorta.)
So today, June 29, 2009, this blog is 1 year, 1 month, and 1 day old. In so many ways, this blog has helped me sustain myself. As the novel nears its completion and I enter into the first round of full-on brutal edits, I can’t help but look at my complicated, messy, difficult and uncertain life and feel grateful. There’s so much beauty in it, even when Nothing Special’s really happening, or conversely when everything is happening and life looks like a big ole poo pile.

Nom nom nom.
Anyway, to that end, please celebrate a year and some change of Possum Stew with a piece of virtual cake, a smile and Blackalicious timelessly-groovy “Make You Feel That Way.” I could not – repeat, NOT – do it without you.

Happy Birthday to you. And don’t worry about the edits: you get to enjoy the pain, like a cutter. Editing my dissertation I had this sudden euphoric realization “This must be what its like to be trapped and the only way to get free is cut your arm off” …and then I cut half a page I LOVED. Give in to it, it is freedom.

@knn: My sister, if ANYBODY else busted out with some Luke Campbell on my thread, I would be giving them the side-eye. But it’s you, and like it or not, it’s a big part of us. Yes. I said it. Booty music is a part of my home experience. Viva la booty music. And rest assured, if a chick gets her Big Oprah Break you will be in the “I’d like to thank” Top 5. After, of course, God and my mother. Because that’s, you know, what Black people do.
@Joseph: Thank you kindly. It’s true. I know that the edited work, honed down to sleek perfection, will be fantastic. I’m actually tempted to post a chapter here just to see what kinda feedback I get (I am copyrighted and stuff). You know, I’m kinda curious to see your dissertation now. I just like to read good stuff. Anyway, thanks for stopping by!
