Wonkette’s Dream New Yorker Cover and the Racist Assholes Who Killed it for Me.
I love Wonkette, and I have since their classic skewering of George Allen and the “macaca” incident two years ago. (Moment for a tangent - God, what a charmer that guy was. Way to blow your shot at the presidency, dickhead. I digress.) And this hypothetical McCain New Yorker cover ( by Jeremy Glass and done, obviously, in response to the Obama cover, as it parallels brilliantly with all the overtly racist elements found there) is hilarious – THAT’S satire done right. However, I have been consistently disturbed by some of what is allowed under the wire in their post comments, particularly the semi-filtered malicious racism evident in comments on a lot of the race-related posts. Seriously, someone actually made a “suckee suckee” reference. SEVERAL! Jayzus. Repeat after me, kids: someone else skewering – intelligently – racism DOES NOT open the floor for YOU to be a racist jerk in the name of “satire.” Fuck a duck.
